Access to Justice Services Department

The Access to Justice Department was established in 2014 by the Prime Minister’s order No 40/03 of25/04/2014 determining the mission, functions, organizational structure and summary of job positions of the Ministry of Justice/ Office of the Attorney General.

Team

The Department is composed by one hundred (100) Staff:

Responsibilities  

The department deals with the provision of the public legal aid, the coordination of Access to justice services as well as the management of abandoned properties.

In line with the provision of public legal aid and coordination of Access to Justice, the department ensures proper coordination and provision of Legal aid services at central and local levels. It also ensures proper functioning of Abunzi Committees, Maison d’Accès à la Justice (MAJ) and coordinate the execution of enforcement orders and notary services. 

In line with the management of abandoned properties, the department ensures proper coordination, monitoring and oversight of management of abandoned property and provides technical advice to the abandoned property management committees.
