Committees in charge of management of abandoned property are urged to observe transparency
On Friday the 12th October 2018 the Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Busingye Johnston chaired the coordination meeting of committee in charge of management of abandoned property. The meeting was attended by Vice Mayors in charge of economic affairs and District land officers.
While talking to the participants, Minister Busingye informed them that the existing law provides that the Minister of Justice may grant the authorisation to manage the abandoned property as one of the successors or relatives upon approval by the Village council where the property is.
He requested that this way of managing abandoned property should be strengthened so that relatives of the property owner get the privilege to manage it after signing a management contract with the committees.
He emphasised that everything should be done with transparency and those who are in charge should avoid all possible mistakes and misconduct like corruption, favoritism, etc.
Monthly reports from Committees in charge of management of abandoned property show that the number of abandoned property across the country is 1,166 among which there are 353 houses, 47 plots, 674 agriculture lands, 10 farms, 77 forests, 1 petrol station and 4 manufacturing industries.
