Following up on the implementation of the UPR recommendations remains our priority

From Thursday 20 to Friday 21, June 2019, the Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Busingye Johnston chaired at Epic Hotel Nyagatare the second stakeholders’ retreat to follow up on the implementation of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) recommendations.

While presenting update on implementation of UPR recommendations, the head of International Justice and Judicial Cooperation Department, Umurungi Providence pointed out that among 50 recommendations accepted by Government of Rwanda, 44 were fully implemented and 6 are still in progress.

During the retreat, stakeholders including Government's institutions, civil society Organisations and Development Partners take part in group work to review the first draft of State report on UPR, provide inputs, highlight gaps and way forward to implement Universal Periodic Review.

The Minister of Justice and Attorney General closed the retreat by urging stakeholders to put people at the centre of the whole process. He called upon them to focus on the impact and avail current data to be used in the report.

Participants agreed to develop the detailed roadmap for the remaining implementation period which runs through November 2020
