Government wants to significantly minimize chances of being taken to court

On Friday 21 September 2018, the Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Busingye Johnston met with Government legal advisors to discuss about the recent legal and judicial reforms / changes which are reflected in various laws recently published in the Official Gazette, including Organic Law nº 002/2018.OL of 04/04/2018 establishing the Court of Appeal; Law n° 30/2018 of 02/06/2018 determining the jurisdiction of courts; Law n° 22/2018 of 29/04/2018 relating to the civil, commercial, labour and administrative procedure and Law nº012/2018 of 04/04/2018 determining the organization and functioning of the Judiciary.

Minister Busingye said that Legal officers are at the forefront and need to get updated on the new laws so they can effectively advise. “Our common goal should be to ensure that all those laws are well implemented and achieve” He added.

He asked them to step up accountability levels in their institutions to avoid losses and being dragged to courts of law.

“Government wants to significantly minimise chances of being taken to court to below 100 cases a year.” Minister emphasized.
