Illicit trafficking and use of arms and ammunition remains a big challenge
From 09th to 12th October 2018, the Regional Centre on Small Arms (RECSA) organised a workshop for the Government Officials and for Civil Society organisations aimed at sensitization on the ratification process of the arms trade treaty.
While opening the workshop, the Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Busingye Johnston said that illicit trafficking, use of arms and ammunition remains a big challenge to national, regional and global peace and security.
“The proliferation of illicit arms allows criminal organisations and terrorist groups to operate easily across the region and beyond. That constitutes a threat and undermines peace and security. To achieve sustainable development, countries are putting efforts together to reduce the illicit arms flows that feed conflicts and divert resources.” Minister Busingye added
