Minister of Justice urges Citizens to reveal those who commit violence in their homes

Minister Busingye talked about this on the 5th day of the tour of Justice Caravan in Nyabihu District where he watched the justice caravan after community work with Shyira citizens rehabilitating the road linking Vunga center with Nturo Center on Saturday the 28th July 2018.

Organised by the International NGO – RCN Justice et Democratie in collaboration with the Ministry of Justice, Justice Caravan is a legal awareness campaign which started in Burera District and in other five Districts including Nyabihu with the aim of teaching most used laws to citizens through mobile caravan, entertainment and dramas. The event closing the tour in Nyabihu took place in Shyira Sector, Nyamitana cell and Kazirankara village on 28 July 2018 after carrying out community work with local citizens.

The Swedish Ambassador to Rwanda Mrs. Jenny Ohlsson attended the event together with RCN Coordinator Mr. Jonathan Lea-Hoarth, the Deputy Ombudsman in charge of Preventing and Fighting Injustice Mrs.  Yankulije Odette, leaders of Nyabihu District and heads of Security organs in Nyabihu District.

While speaking to the participants, Minister Busingye thank RCN for organizing such a legal awareness campaign to strengthen access to Justice and to familiarize citizens with most used laws.  He further advised Nyabihu citizens to reveal anyone who commits any kind of violence instead of hiding it, which also becomes a crime. “You should not keep a secret for somebody who commits any kind of violence based on traditional belief commonly known as “Niko zubakwa”, if you do it you are also taken as somebody who has committed the crime” Minister Busingye highlighted. He added that whoever the person may be, should be reported because no one is above the laws.

The Justice caravan has so far reached Burera, Ngororero, Rutsiro and Nyabihu Districts and will continue in Nyarugenge and Gicumbi Districts. After the drama performances, citizens who have justice related  issues are given time for legal aid  where by members of the Justice Sector District Committees  handle some of the cases and refer others to the competent authorities.
