Paying Government owed debt should be a culture
On Friday the 8th February 2019, Minister of Justice and Attorney General Busingye Johnston chaired a meeting with Professional Bailiffs who have a contract with the Government for the execution of judgments involving government debts to be recovered. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the challenges which hindered the execution of such cases at the planned rate as well as the remedial actions which can be used to recover Government funds.
Minister Busingye appreciated all people who, once they are aware that they owe money to the Government, take the lead on their own to pay it and bring necessary documents to the Ministry. “When we see such people, our hopes are raised and we take them as exemplary citizens” He added.
"We call upon everyone who owes money to the Government and is willing to pay but he/she does not have enough means, to approach the Ministry of Justice to discuss the issue and set workable payment plans depending on their ability. We can discuss how they can pay in installments so that it becomes a culture to pay Government debts. Anybody who receives a dossier requesting for payment of government funds, should pay without any complications” Minister Busingye highlighted.
