The 8th JRLOS Peer Review Retreat concludes with 16 resolutions
The Justice, Reconciliation, Law and Order Sector 8th Peer Review Retreat held at Epic Hotel Nyagatare from Thursday the 25th to Friday the 26th April 2019 and was chaired by Chief Justice Prof. Sam Rugege. The retreat which had as a theme: “Good Governance and Justice: Let us increase the Citizen’s Participation for a Better Justice Service Delivery” focused mainly on the improvement of justice services delivery and increasing citizens’ participation.
After various presentations and discussions mainly leading to the assessment of what went well within institutions, encountered challenges and proposed strategies to initiate corrective measures where necessary, participants adopted 16 resolutions which can be accessed on this link.
While closing the retreat, the Chief Justice acknowledged participants’ inputs and comments as well as good resolutions thereof. He further called upon all sector institutions, and partner institutions to join efforts for implementation of the resolutions taken. The retreat was closed with a press conference whereby top leaders of JRLOS institutions and partner organisations explained to the media what was discussed in the retreat, the resolutions and other justice related issues.
On Saturday the 27th, participants joined Nyagatare Sector population for monthly community work whereby they dug water canal to be used to distribute clean water to the households of Barija cell, Burumba village of two million Rwandan francs value. In his speech after the community work, the Minister of State in charge of Constitutional and legal affairs Evode Uwizeyimana, called upon citizens to fight emerging crimes and household violence and strive for security and development.
