Virtual Commonwealth Continental meeting of Anti-Corruption agencies in Commonwealth Africa.
On Monday 07th September 2020, Minister of Justice and Attorney General Busingye Johnston participated at the virtual Commonwealth Continental meeting of Anti-Corruption agencies in Commonwealth Africa, with the theme: "Assessing Anti-Corruption and asset recovery efforts in Africa.”
Delivering his remarks, Minister Busingye shared Rwanda's experience in integrity and public accountability. He said that Rwanda’s story on integrity and public accountability is reflective of the political will invested to achieve success on these matters.
"Integrity around the management of public resources should, foremost, refer to public officials’ discipline, ability and capacity to supervise, regulate and monitor themselves in the process of the management of public resources… Failure to develop a culture of integrity and accountability costs us dignity as a people and condemns us to perpetual dependence. In the face of such manifest injustice, fighting with every tool available becomes imperative. " Minister Busingye added.
Concluding his remarks, the Minister of Justice and Attorney general stressed that the need to fight corruption and related acts or crimes and recovery of illegally gotten assets needs to remain a priority agenda item at all times.
